KNITTING WOOL
SCHEME TO LIMIT INDIVIDUAL: PURCHASES - (Special.) WELLINGTON, Junly C. A special scheme for restricting individual purchases of knitting wool was announced to-day by the Food and Rationing Controller, with the approval of the Minister of Supply and Munitions, Mr Sullivan. This new arrangement operates as from to-day until the end of the current rationing period on October 31 next, during which period no more than 12 ounces of wool may.be purchased by the holder of any ration book during the. period referred to. Knitting wool other than baby wool may be purchased on surrender of 4 clothing coupon together with one "E " coupon for each ounce. This means that the retailer is required to cut out £ clothing coupon for each ounce of knitting wool supplied, and at the same time indelibly cancel or cut out one "E" coupon from the same ration book in respect to each ounce sold. Only 12 of the "E " coupons, that is numbers 1 to 12 are available for this purpose. The scheme does not include baby wool, which will continue to he purchased with special " expectant mother" coupons, and also excludes wool in the service colours purchased on next-of-kin and armed services coupons. , The controller stated that supplies of wool coming on to the market at the present time were being purchased largely by. those who were-able to shop when the" releases were being made 07 the retailors. Under . the new system a better opportunity would be given to mothers and other necessitous cases of securing some part of their essential needs. '
