OUTPUT OF SHIPS AND PLANES WASHINGTON, March. 5. The Secretary of the Navy, Colonel Frank Knox, told a Press conference that sea and air production had reached 1 an all-time record in February. In that month 1,400. planes were turned out, of which over half were combat iplanes, as well as 200,000 tons of shipping, including 150 warships and over 700 landing barges. Moreover, a new type of antisubmarine vessel had been designed to relieve destroyers for actual combat. It was larger than a corvette and smaller than a destroyer. It was of approximately 1,300 tons, the hull being over ,300 ft long and the beam 35ft. Colonel Knox disclosed that several of these vessels, which are more powerful and effective than corvettes, are already in service. He concluded by stating that the March output was expected to be even better.
