EIGHTH ARMY PATROLS

IN CONTACT WITH ENEMY ON FRONTIER (British Official Wireless.) (Rec. 10 a.m.) RUGBY, February 8. A Middle East joint communique states: Yesterday our patrols were active on all sectors. In the coastal region our troops made contact with the enemy in the Tunisian border area west of Pisida In the central sector enemy armoured cars were engaged, and dispersed. Despite the very bad weather our fighter-bombers operated against dispersed enemv vehicles west of Ben

Gardane. Yesterday enemy rail communications in Sicily were successfully attacked by our fighter-bombers. An enemy transport aircraft was shot down. A large-scale daylight raid was carried out by Allied heavy bombers on Naples. Direct hits were scored on three ships, and big fires started on the waterfront. Two enemy fighters were shot down over the target area. One of our aircraft is missing.
