NAVY LEAGUE
The monthly meeting of the executive of the Navy League (Otago branch) was held on Wednesday, tho president (Mr J. Sutherland Ross) being in the chair. Letters were received from Sir Sydney Fremantle acknowledging receipt of two shipments of comforts, children’s garments, tinned foods, etc., aiid expressing thanks for these supplies. Tho report from the Women’s Committee stated that, a permit had been granted by the Patriotic Council enabling the Navy League to purchase supplies of wool without coupons. The workers at tho spinning room had spun 701 b 6oz of wool during August, and members of the Homo Economics Association had given valuable assistance on one day of each week. Miss Ross had kindly presented a clock to the spinning room. In addition to the usual monthly quota sent to Wellington, 479 men s garments and 57 children’s garments, a supply of tinned food and 301 b of butter had been sent overseas. Two visiting overseas ships had been supplied with goods arid comforts. Donations for the month totalled £l3, including a donation of £5 from tho Goro Women’s Club Emergency Fund tor comforts for tho men of the mercantile marine. Mrs Begg was asked to buy a further supply of plum puddings and have these forwarded to the mine sweepers on the New Zealand station. Tho President stated that the first feea Cadets flag to leave England had been sent to the local corps by Vice-Admiral J. L. 1. Harper, and had been brought out by a New Zealand R.N.V.R. rating, who had presented it to tho corps at a recent parade. A request having been received from a local naval station for batteries lor a radio set, it was resolved that these should be supplied to the station. Five new members were elected. •
