SCHOOL TEACHERS' DRESS
SYDNEY, Sept. 10. Women teachers in New South Wales may go without stockings or wear slacks and men teachers may wear open-neck shirts. This is the effect of a ruling by the State Minister of Education, Mr Clive Evatt. The Federal Minister of War Organisation, Mr J. J. Dednian, has stated that working girls would be acting in a commonsenso manner if they dispensed with stockings. If their employers objected, the girls could appeal to him for help and he would see that they got it. GIANT CARGO PLANES NEW YORK, Sept. 9. The, shipbuilder, Mr Henry Kaiser, is determined to convince Government officials of his ability to build mammoth cargo planes without disrupting the construction of combat aircraft, says the Washington correspondent of the United Press. Mr Kaiser says he began building ships with 3,000* men and he now employs 123,000, of whom 90 per cent, have never helped to build a ship before in their lives. He would do the same with plane building. BOMBS OH AKYAB SUCCESSFUL RAF. ATTACK (British Official Wireless.) (Rec. noon.) RUGBY, Sept. 10. R.A.F. bombers made a successful attack on an enemy supply ship and escort at Akyab, according to a New Delhi announcement. The attack was pressed liome despite strong fighter opposition and A.A. fire. Several direct hits were scored on ships at the jetty, also among goods being unloaded.
