SERVICES APPEAL BOARD

FURTHER CASES HEARD Further appeals for exemption from service or for release from the military force* were heard yesterday afternoon by the No. 1 Armed Forces Appeal Board —Messrs D. C. Cameron (chairman), C. V, Smith, and W. R. Clarke. L. A. White, course and green keeper, was appealed for by the St. Clair Golf Club. The club representative stated that it was intended to sow down 25 acres of the course in crop, as well as to endeavour to keep open the course for play.—The appeal was adjourned sine die. The following appeals were also adjourned sine die:—Reid and Gray Ltd.,-for M. J. Stanaway, labourer, the reservist to serve in the Home Guard; C. F, .Roberts, for F. A Fulton, timber yardman, to serve in the Home Guard, Mrs L. J. Ifcbinson and R. C., Robinson, for C. G. Robinson, a sheep farmer; R. C. Robinson, for A. T. Woodrow, a farmer. The appeal by L. G. Anderson, sheep farmer, was referred to the Primary Production Committee. for a report. B. D. Graham wak granted two weeks* leave, for seasonal work. W. M. Stewart, farm labourer and shearer, for whom P. G. Hellyer appealed, was granted one month’s leave. The appeal of W. and T. Avery (N.Z.)' Ltd. for R. G. Clarkson, scale mechanic, was adjourned until February 28, 1943, Clarkson to serve meantime in the Horn* Guard. C. Welham, farm hand, for whom Brinsdon and Copland appealed, was released from camp until December 31. ' In the appeal by Thomson and Youngson for W. H. Cockerill, two months’ leavewas granted. . J. R. Dunlop, a warehouse manager, was granted two weeks’ leave from September 14. ... The application of H. A. King, former, for transfer to a local camp, was declined. The appeal by G. A. Newman for release from camp was granted, appellant to serve in the Home Guard. An adjournment until December 51 was granted in the case of R. J. Hyslop, for whom Newberry Walker Ltd. appealed. The following appeals were dismissed:— Jensen Bros, for L. Thorn, butcher; Momona Dairy Factory Ltd. for A. W. Parsons, the board in this case recommending the release from camp of G. G. Thomson to replace Parsons; and R. L. Klee, an ss countant. EDITOR REFUSED EXEMPTION (P.A.I INVERCARGILL, Sept. 9. Appeals on behalf of the editor of the ' Southland Times,’ R. G, Lund, and the advertising manager of the ‘ Southland Daily News,’ W. W. Butcher, were dismissed by the Southland Armed Forces Appeal Board to-night. The appellants were the respective companies. An appeal lodged on behalf of R M Hutton-Potts, cable sub-edi. tor of the ' News,’ was adjourned sine die. Exemption was also sought for » number of members of the mechanical staffn of the two papers,- mo?t of the appeals be ing adjourned sine die.
