ANIMAL PRODUCTION
SOCIETY HONOURS FOUNDER (P.A.) WELLINGTON, August 19. A scientific .organisation conferred an unusual honour on a layman to-night, when the New Zealand Society of Animal Production, at its annual meeting, elected Mr J, M. Ranstoad, of Matangi, Waikato, a life member in recognition of his services in the field of animal production. The president, Professor C. P. McMeekan, said that Mr Ranstead was the founder of their organisation. He had also contributed a great deal to animal breeding, and was one of the founders of the Shorthorn Breeding Society. He was also a keen practical breeder and one of the soundest students of animal genetics. Professor McMeekan said that theirs was an organisation of scientific “ wallahs,” but in conferring life membership on Mr Ranstead they wore first of all honouring a farmer.
