QUEEN CARNIVAL
Mr Albert Wheeler, president of the Dunedin Centre of the Pipers and Dancers’ Association, lias arranged to provide a grand national concert in support of the local bodies’ section. This will be held in the Concert Chamber, Town Hall, on Friday, at 7.45 p.m. The support of all the kindred Scottish societies (Caledonian, Gaelic, Burns Club, St. Andrew’s, Scottish, Orkney and Shetland, and Scottish Council) is solicited. The programme is a lengthy one and contains the names of many of Dunedin’s finest artists, including Mr George Butler, Miss Grace Russell, Mr James Paterson, Miss hfewey, Mr Leslie Dunbar, Miss Sylvia Lawrence, Miss Jean McLay, Mr Peter Dawson, Miss Nancy Pinder, Mr Bruce Wood, Mrs S. M. Tohill, and others. Every night this week the combined carnival is being conducted in the Pioneer Hall, the big attraction being the bathing beauty parade, which is arousing keen interest. Games and stalls pf all desriptionse arc being conducted, and as a grand finale to the carnival a poster ball is being staged on Saturday night. There will be scenes of enthusiasm, for the final result of the queen carnival is to be announced at 11.30. The colourful poster display will be contested by representatives of many local firms. , , The All People’s street day appeal will be conducted on Friday. This will be a united carnival effort, and a four-figure total is hoped for. Attractive badges will be on sale, and the manufacturing industries section will conduct a Paddy's market jn Dowling street.
