For the first time in history a citizen of the United States has stood sponsor for a member of the British Royal Family, President Roosevelt being one of the godparents of the son of the Duke and Duchecs of Kent, who was born on, American Independence Day, and who was christened by the Archbishop of Canterbury. The Prince was named Michael George Charles Franklin, and will be known as Prince George of Kent. The Duke stood proxy for President Roosevelt. Other godparents were the King, King Haakon, Queen Wi'helmina, the Duke of Gloucester, the Crown Princess of Greece, Lady Patricia Ramsay, and the Dowager Marchioness of Milford Haven.
