HIGH-RANKING OFFICERS

RETURNED FROM ITALY

Members of the 2nd N.Z.E.F. who returned to the Dominion recently and who have been prisoners of war for a period were three senior officers of the New Zealand Medical Corps—Lieutenant-colonels N. C. Speight (Dunedin), A. A. Temient (Dunedin), and J. M. Thwigg (Wellington). Lieutenant-colonels Speight, Temient, and Thwigg were all captured in the Tobruk corridor fighting at Sidi Rezegb last • November Lieutenant-colonel Speight has been an officer of the New Zealand Medical Corps for a number of years. He was serving in the Otago University Medical Company before the war, and left New Zealand with the rank of major, being promoted to his present rank about a year ago. Lieutenant-colonel Tennent has also been a member of the New Zealand Medical Corps for some years, serving mainly with an artillery unit in the Central Military Distinct and rising to the rank of major. He went to Britain with the New Zealand Coronation Contingent. Lieutenant-colonel Thwigg served in Greece, Crete, and Libya. Before the war he held the rank of captain in the New Zealand Medical Corps, Central Military District, being attached to the Royal New Zealand Air Force He was awarded the D. early this year, and was also mentioned in despatches.
