BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETING At the fortnightly meeting of the St. Kilda Borough Council, Mr I’. J. B. Kendel, who recently successfully contested the by-electiou necessary through the death of Or J. H. Hinton, was formally installed as a councillor. There were present the mayor, Mr N. D. Anderson, who presided, and Crs T. D. B. Roy, J. C. Cherry, E. Longworth, R. S. Brent, VV. Rutherford, A. H. Finnic, and R'. A. Telfer. AIR MAIL SERVICE. Reference to the elimination of Dunedin as the terminal point in the air service was made by the Mayor, who said that mail deliveries were unsatisfactory enough without the inconvenience that this slight to Dunedin would create. Not only Dunedin, but Southland and Central Otago, would suffer. The step was not a war measure;

if it were so the council would not say a word iu protest. Nothing would be done to improve the position if pressure were not brought to bear on the Government by the ■local bodies. He accordingly moved: “That this council strongly' protests against the unfair curtailment of the air services to and from Dunedin, and respectfully requests that the Minister of Transport (Hon. K. Semple) reconsider the time table with a view to reinstating the Dunedin service of three days a week at least.” ■ The motion was earned. CAR PARKING IN STREETS. The inspector (Mr F. T. De Largey) reported having carried out night patrol of the borough streets on May 29 and June 5. Warning notices were issued to the owners of eight cars found parked on the streets. It was noticeable, he stated, that some of the offending cars were owned by persons living outside the borough. “ It is time the inspector went beyond the stage of issuing notices,” said Cr Longworth. “In Ibe blackout the streets are no place in which to leave cars.” He moved that the inspector issue summonses in future to offending motorists. This was carried after Cr Hoy had stated thaS no action could be taken against city car owners who parked their cars only during the . period of paying a few hours’ visit to friends in the borough.
