SHARE MARKET

A firm buying tone for Government stocks was evident on 'Change this morning, but there was a complete lack of sellers. In banking there were buyers for Hank of New South Wales at £25, without sellers offering. New Zealands were available at slightly lower rates, buyers quoting 36, but sellers were Is away. Ihe long U issue were offered at 30s 3d, Commercials at 13s, and National Banks at 395. An casing tendency was noticeable in the insurance section, Nationals being offered at 18s 9d, New Zealands at 59s 9d, and Standards at 58s 6d; these had no buying support, however. South British were quoted buyer 495, seller 51s 6d. The only quotation in meat preserving was a buyer at £9 10s for Canterbury ordinaries. There were no buyers quoted in the loan and agency section, while there were sellers of National Mortgage at 40s, Guarantee Corporation at 3s, and Wright, Stephenson, and Co. prefs. at 20s 3d. Buyers also were looking for brewery shares, New Zealands being on offer at 32s 9d and Dunedins at 20s. In coal and oil, Westports were quoted at 24s 3d sellers, and Stockton profs, at 7s. Little interest was displayed in woollens, although a buyer appeared in this section, offering 5s 8d for Kaiapoi contributing. The prefs. were on offer at 20s, and Bruee ordinaries at 22s 9d, both without buyers. Few buyers quoted in the miscellaneous group, while there were sellers of A.C.I. at 38s 6d, Booth Macdonald prefs. at 5s 3d, Dominion Fertiliser at 22s 6d, Donaghys (old issue) at 50s (new issue at 495), Macduff's at 8s 6d and the prefs. at 21s 6d, Milburn Limes at 355, and New’ Zealand Drugs at Vss. New Zealand Paper Mills were offered at 335, Regent Theatres at 19s. Southland Ice Creams at 235. and Wilsons Cement at 18s. There was a buyer of ‘ Otago Daily Times ’ at 38s. and D. 1.0. ordinaries were wanted at 14s 9d, and the prefs. at 245. Woolworths (N.Z.) were quoted 12s buyer, 12s 6d seller, and 11s 6d was offered for Woolworths Sydney ordinancs. In Australian mining, Moutn Lyells were quoted 20s buyer, 23s seller.
