OBITUARY
DR I. N. SPEDDING' The borough of Mosgiel lost an esteemed and well-known resident this morning when Dr Ivan Norman Spedding, who had been iu general practice there for the past 30 years, passed away. Dr Spedding was the son of Mr D. M. and Mrs Clara Spedding, and was born in 1883. He received his education at the Arthur Street School, tho Otago Boys’ High School, and the University of Otago. He graduated M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. af Middlesex Hospital, England, and later served on the stall of the Stafford Infirmary, Staffordshire. He returned to New Zealand about 30 years ago, and at once set up in practice in Mosgiel. Dr Spedding served in the Great War as captain of the New Zealand Medical Corps, and was mentioned in despatches. He was badly gassed, and was invalided home, later serving on travelling medical boards until the Armistice. On tho outbreak of the present war Dr Spedding again volunteered for service, and was appointed medical officer at a nearby Royal Air Force Training Station, later being transferred to a local military camp with the rank of major. As a result of his Groat War injuries his health during the past 10 months had not been good. He is survived by his widow, a daughter of tho late Mr George Mnndie, by one son who is serving in Libya, and by one daughter who is married to Captain Heath, recently returned from overseas and now in a South Island camp.
