DARWIN AGAIN RAIDED
DAMAGE, BUT NO CASUALTIES XBec. 8 a.m.) CANBERRA, Mar. 4. An official communique issued tonight said the town of Darwin and R A \ F. installations wore tins nfteinooii attacked and machine-gunned by Japaneso fighter planes. Some damage ■was caused, but no casualties were reported. Alerts were sounded later, but jib further raids occurred. The communique also dealt witu the R.A.A.F. raids on Gasmata (Now Britain).'' Some hits were scored on aerodrome buildings, aud columus of smoke .were observed in the bombed area. Two Australian machines failed to return to their base. The Japanese raid on Broome, in Western Australia, yesterday, caused gome casualties, states an Australian Air Ministry communique, which adds that one Japanese fighter was shot down. The enemy used fighter aircraft fitted with loug-rango detachable petrol tanks. Port Moresby, in Papua, was attacked bv the enemy for 20 minutes vesterday afternoon. The Japanese •used both fighters and bombers, with no marked success, although some damage •was caused during the attack, which was directed on the aerodromes and harbour installations.
