THEFTS WITH VIOLENCE
NEW YEAR'S EVE CRIMES PENSIONER LOSES £135 (P.A.) AUCKLAND. Jan. 2. Complaints of three thefts from the person, during the New Year holidays have been received by the police. One man stated that he was robbed of savings amounting to £135. Ho is Robert Williams (OS), a pensioner, of Arch Hill. He had the money in a belt around his body when he entered an hotel on Wednesday afternoon. He said he accepted an invitation to a party at a private house, and left the hotel with others. His memory was indistinct, but he awoke early yesterday on a conch in a strange house, with the belt, money, and a ring missing. A woman ordered him to leave, and he found himself in Ireland street, Ponsonby, with abrasions on the head and ears. He returned homo and reported the matter to the police. A Chinese laundryman in Symonds street was accosted and assaulted by a man late on Wednesday night and robbed of a few shillings. The third man was allegedly assaulted and robbed of 8s in a public convenience. A young man was arrested and remanded until next week.
