PATRIOTIC FUNDS

THE ENVELOPE APPEAL (.P.A.) WELLINGTON. Jan. 1. “ The residents of some district! have already lodged their donation* very satisfactorily, but the returns to hand show that others must_ still be retaining their envelopes,” said Mr J. Abel, organiser of the red, white, and blue patriotic envelope appeal, tonight. The collection boxes were to remain on post office counters till January 7. If any households had misplaced their envelopes any plain envelope could be used, “ If every household in New Zealand that has been supplied with a_ special envelope gave only 2s 6d each it would mean approximately £50,000 for the funds, just about the amount spent,on the forces for Christmas Day alone,” Mr Abel added.
