WATER SHORTAGE
SEVERE RESTRICTIONS IN SYDNEY Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright (Uec. 8 a.in.) SYDNEY, Jan. 1. Continued drought on the catchment area having reduced the storage in dams to a dangerously low level, the most severe restrictions on the use of ■water in the history of Sydney have been imposed by the Water Board. The use of water for domestic purposes is totally prohibited between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., and between 8 pan. and 0 a.m. The use of domestic hot water storage systems and gas, electric, or chip bath heaters, except in hospitals, prohibited. The depth of water permitted in plunge baths is limited to 4iu. Water for the watering of golf greens, tennis courts, cricket pitches, or for other sporting purposes, is totally prohibited. All business and commercial enterprises are to reduce water consumption immediately. The watering times for market gardens, nurseries, etc., arc reduced by one hour a day.
