MANCHESTER UNITY
Manchester Unity lodges in the city and suburbs completed their activities for the year during the latter part of December with the installations of officers for the coming term, in all but two instances. The ceremonies were conducted by Prov. Warden Bro. L. Hope, assisted by Prov, Guardian Bro. F. Pearcey. Officers elected by Loyal Caversham Lodge were Bros. T. Moms, Fred McKenzie, C. Riddell, T. Wilson, and O. Smith, with Bro. S. Mowat as L.P.M. The lodge adjourned until January 14. Loyal Dunedin elected N.G. Bro. J. Knowles, jun,, and in the following order Bros. J. Arnold, Grandon, and 'J. McDougall, Reference was made at this meeting to P.G. Bro. Dick Torrance, jun., who was listed as missing in the Middle East campaign. A large gathering greeted N.G. Sister V. Donaldson in the Loyal Princess Mary Lodge. Officers elected were N.G. Sister E. List, V.G. Sister J. Goodyear. E.S. Sister E. Rennie, Warden Sister L. Smith; Guardian Sister Cumberbeacb, and I.P.N.G. Sister V. Donaldson. Prior to the installation of officers in the Loyal Hand and Heart Lodge, the trustees brought forward a remit to vote the sum of £SOO to the Government for war purposes. The opinion was expressed by members that the money might be set aside for the assistance of disabled soldier members. It was explained that this matter was receiving attention by the district as a whole and the motion was carried.. Prov. T.G.M. Bro. R. Hanrahan obligated the following officers elect:—N.G. Bro. O. J. Todd, Bros. H. A. Thompson, J. B. Townsend, K. E. Barnett, F. Lyon, and L.P.N.G. Brc. E. Niven. The . meeting passed a motion of sympathy with the Prov. G.M., Bro. Boardman, in the death of his father. Loyal Albion Lodge was well attended, and routine business and an exchange. of the season’s greetings preceded the installation of N.G. Brc. G. Monk. V.G.. Bro. J. Ferguson and E.S. Bro. T. Brooks. The Prov. Deputy G.M., assisted by the two minor executive officers, conducted the installation of officers in (he Loyal Prince of Wales Lodge, Port Chalmers) The now officers are Bros. J. A. Pedofsky, W. M. Robb, F. Keenan, McCormack, W. Williamson, and Jenkin. Referference was made to the death of Lancecorporal D. Gilmour, while on active service. The children of members, numbering about 100. were entertained during the month, and each received a gift from the Christmas tree. I
