PERSONAL

—Ministerial.— The Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon. W. E. Parry) left by car for Invercargill yesterday after two days of departmental activities in the city. Mr D. L. Scott is at present on a visit to the North Island. Mr and Mrs John Coombs, of Northeast Valley, celebrated the seventy-first anniversary of their wedding to-day. They were married in 1870 by Ur Thomas Burns, their wedding ceremony being the last conducted by him. Mrs Coombs, who was born in John Knox’s house in Edinburgh, arrived in Dunedin by the Mariner in 1849. She is 95 years of age. and is the second oldest Otago pioneer alive. Mr Coombs was born in London, and arrived at Auckland with his parents by the Josephine Willis in 1852. He came to Dunedin in 1862. There are numerous descendants.
