RENT REGULATIONS
PROVISIONS IN NEW SOUTH WALES Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright CANBERRA, Nov. 29. No dwelling house in New South Wales which is being let at less than £4 4s a week can now be let at a rent greater than that which was paid on August 31, 1939. Regulations gazetted provide that where the rent has been increased since the war it must immediately be reduced to the pre-war figure. The regulations empower a tenant to call on the landlord to supply a statutory declaration of the rent on August 31, 1939. No landlord may refuse to let-a house because a prospective tenant has a child, and it will be an offence to inquire whether a prospective tenant has a. child or whether it is intended that the child shall live in the dwelling. The regulations will be applied immediately to New South Wales at the request of the State Government. The Federal Government hopes that new regulations will soon operate throughout Australia.
