BY-ELECTION
LABOUR NOMINEE FOB BAY OF PLENTY (P.A.)' WELLINGTON, Nov. 19. The secretary of the New Zealand Labour Party, Mr M. Moohau, announced to-day that Mr Charles Mills has been selected to contest the Bay of Plenty scat at the by-election on behalf of the Labour Party. Mr Mills is a returned soldier, haying served for three years overseas in the last war, and has a long record of public service in the Bay of Plenty. Until recently he lived in Te Karaka. where for 17 years he was a successful business man and dairy farmer.’ Ho recently entered into business at Gisborne, but still retains fanning interests in Te Karaka. Ho is aged 47, and is married with five children.
(P.A.) OPOTIKI, November 20. It is generally expected that Mr W. Sullivan, of Whakatane, who contested the seat at the last general election when ho was narrowly defeated _by the late Lieutenant A. G. Hultquist, will contest the seat in the interests of the National Party. An announcement has been made that the Democratic Labour Party will not contest the scat.
