Messrs James Begg and A. S. Holms (Waimahaka) were passengers by the through express to-day on their way to Wellington for a meeting of tho Meat Board. Messrs A. G. W. Dunningham (city librarian) and John Harris (University librarian) left to-day for Wellington to attend a meeting of the New Zealand Book Resources Committee. Mr James (Ritchie travelled by the through express to-day, being bound for Wellington for a meeting of the executive of the Now Zealand Counties’ Association. At a 'recent meeting of the council of the Incorporated Institute of Accountants of New Zealand, Mr J. N. Allan, of Dunedin, was admitted a member under the designation of associate, incorporated - accountant, New Zealand.
A British Official Wireless message from Rugby states that Sir Arthur Gimble, Governor of tthe Seychelles Islands, has been appointed Governor and Commander-in-Chief of the Windward Islands, in succession to Sir Henry Popham, who is retiring in May.
The High Commissioner in New Zealand for the United Kingdom, Sir Harry Batterbce, left Wellington last night for New Plymouth. He will he in Auckland for the arrival of Mr A. Duff Cooper, Minister of State in tho Far East, and will return to AVellington on Sunday. Sergeant H. Hogg, who has been attached to the Central Police Station for some years, has received notice of his transfer to Invercargill. Sergeant Hogg is a former South Canterbury representative Rugby player, and while in Dunedin has taken a very keen interest in the activities of the Police Rugby team. Ho is president of the Dunedin Police Social Club and chairman of tho Dunedin branch of the Police Association. Count K. A. Wodzicki, the Polish Consul-General in New Zealand, arrived in Dunedin by tho express from tho north yesterday afternoon. To-day lie was tho guest at the Rotary Club luncheon, and to-night he will give an illustrated lecture to members of the Otago branch of tho Royal Society on the subject of wild life conservation in Poland. To-morrow night lie will give an address to members of the Dunedin Returned Soldiers’ Association and tho Officers’ Club. At the meeting of the committee of tho Forhury Park Trotting Club last night, tho president (Mr B. S. Irwin) referred with regret to the recent death of Mr Robert Brunton, who was formerly a member of the committee, and master of the Otago Hunt Club. A motion of sympathy with tho relatives of Mr Brunton was passed in the customary manner. Cabled advice has been received that Flying-officer Nat Paterson (Dunedin), of the lloth Bomber Squadron of the R.A.F., has been promoted to tho rank of flight lieutenant.
