GRATITUDE FROM ENGLAND
WORK OF WEST HAM MISSION The following extract from a letter received by the Otago branch of the West Ham Central .Mission (formerly called the Stocking League), in recognition of two cases of goods sent to the mission in London shows how much these gifts mean to the people of England:— “ Wo-appreciate your generous kindness more than we can tell you, and hope you will kindly convoy our grateful thanks to all the Dunedin friends. Surely there never was a time when our need was greater than it is to-day, and we are so glad that you have braved the difficulties, and sent us such a splendid gift. We are in the thick of the fight, as everyone knows, and since September have fed, clothed, and generally cared for some thousands of homeless folk. We have about 250 sleeping bunks on the lowest floor of our Children’s Church, and every night we send out a mobile canteen and a first-aid unit to the other shelters in the district. 1 The mothers are so grateful for all the warm clothing we arc able to give them, as they, and their little ones, are feeling the cold in the shelters and in their own war-damaged homes.”
