The Central Mission Hall, Stuart street, presented a gay scene last evening, when the. visiting delegates to the Dominion conference of the Methodist Women’s Missionary IT?iion wore entertained. Mrs S. A.’ Front, local president, welcomed the 7C> delegates and presented bouquets to the Dominion officers—Mrs Taylor, Mrs Flavall, Mrs Goldsmith, and Miss (Rishworth. The stage was beautifully decorated with flowering shrubs. Those contributing to the programme were Mrs Ivy Harman, Miss Phyllis West, Mrs E. D. Smyth, Mr (Ray Wentworth, and the Central Mission Bible Class Choir, winners in the recent Competitions. R.N.V.R. Wool Supplies. Fresh supplies of wool have come to hand and are now available for distribution to members of the R.N.V.R. Ladies’ Committee. Women’s Land Army. Eighteen members of the Woman’s Land Army will arrive in Waimate from Christchurch this week and will stay for varying periods. These are all business girls who are giving their annual holiday as a w'ar effort to help to maintain national production. It is expected that they will become the nucleus of a wider campaign among women to recruit help for farms during busy seasons. Dugout on Friday. The Travel Club will be in charge of the dugout in the Octagon on Friday next. The club lias a large membership and there will be a well-stocked delicatessen stall as well as cakes, produce, flowers, etc. Members are asked to bring in their contributions in the morning. Dunedin Musician Honoured. Miss Jean Hoggins, of Dunedin, who has been studying at the Royal College of Music in London for the past three years, has been granted a second year’s extension of her scholarship. She is now taking lessons from the celebrated English violinist, Mr Albert Sammons, w-ho accepted a post on the staff of the college this year. Miss Hoggins is leader of the second! orchestra —there are three orchestras in the college—and also solo violinist in this orchestra. Her partner and deputy leader of the orchestra, is Mr Ritchie Hanna, who is also a pupil of Mr Sammons. Miss Hoggins leads the second violins in the first orchestra, and, in a recent, letter, stated that she is to give a recital this term, in company with one other performer. Now- that the Queen’s Hall has been razed to tbo ground by enemy action, the orchestral concerts arc held! in the Albert Hall, which provides seating accommodation for 5.000, and thousands have been turned away on the occasion of each concert.
