annual meeting of association There was a good attendance at the annual meeting of the Otago Scout Association last night, Mr J. Kirkwood being in the chair. In its annual report the Area Council stated that in the past year there had been a reduction in the number of Scouts. The hoys had taken part in war work and in the collection of waste material. The hobbies exhibition had
been successful, despite fewer entries, but the “ street day ” had not been as successful as the previous one. Scouting had seen the passing of the Chief Scout, Lord Baden-Powell, the report went on, and it had a duty to perform to make the movement a fitting memorial to its founder. The report later referred to the death of Sir Percy Sargood. An expression of the appreciation of the council of the work of the officers and the loyalty of the committees concluded the report, which was adopted. Commissioners Bonham and Black reported on the activities in tho north-
ern and southern districts respectively, Commissioner Mclndoe spoke on scouting generally during the year, and Commissioner Paton reported on cub work. It was decided to recommend to the council that it go into the question of securing a camp site. After a lengthy discussion a motion recommending that the council consider the matter of outstanding levies for 1939 was carried unanimously. The Area Council for the ensuing year was elected as follows: —Messrs R. A. Dawson, J. Duncan, S. Gordon, J. Kirkwood, H. C. Wilson, and P. Evans. Mr F, 11. Thompson was appointed auditor*
