INTERESTING GIFTS The monthly meeting of the Otago Early Settlers’ Association was held yesterday afternoon, when there were present: Mr J. W. Patou (president, in the chair), Messrs W, H. Ferens, E, Webster, F. A. Cheyne, 11. T. Stewart, J. Hope, D. J. Gaidar, A. E. Selby, Edgar Hazlctt, F. H. Campbell, W. R. Brush, J. Dey, and W. Paterson (secretary). One 'early settler, Thomas Fitzgibbon (Arrowlown), Caribou, 1868, was enrolled during the month. Tho following descendants were enrolled:—Mrs K. Brookfield, St. Heliers, Auckland (nee Will), grandparents, Stately, 1854; Mrs E. B. Smith (nee Morrison), Kew, father, Caribou,

1867; Dr M. M. Wall (Dunedin), grandfather, Magnet, 1840. The following gifts were received during the month, and votes of thanks were passed to the donors: —Mr D. Mallocb (Waikouaiti), cony of his book, ‘ Early Waikouaiti’; Mr G. W. Dalgliesh (Duncopy of Land Order of theNcjv! Zealand Company, dated 1847 miner’s right issued at Arrow, 1865, and other interesting documents; Mr A. Ross (Roslyn), collection of souvenir medals; Mr W. H. Fcrens (Dunedin), collection of fossils; from Mr R. IV. Henderson (Northeast Valley), pair of passenger coach headlamps; Mr J. Robertson (Waitati), •portraits of his late parents, Mr and Mrs James Robertson (Hampden); Mr Robertson, 1858; Mrs Robertson, Victory, 1863. From Mr A. Cedes (Eoslyn), three framed inferior views of first exhibition in New Zealand, hold in Dunedin in 1865; from 1 Mr H. K. Poppelwell (Roslyn), per Mr D. J. Calder, New Zealand Land Order and

interesting correspondence dealing with the land purchase; from Mr J. F. 31. Lawson (Cosy Deli), per Mr D. J. Calder. Land Order of the New Zealand Company; from Mr T. Reid (Anderson’s Bay), framed portraits of his late parents. 31 r and Mrs James Reid (Arrowtown), Donna Anita, 1864; from Dr C. North (Dunedin), water colour of s.s. Taranaki, which was wrecked at Karcwa Island, Bay of Plenty, 1870’s.
