TAIERI COMPETITIONS
FOURTH SESSION Mr E. W. Cate presided at the fourth session of the Taieri Competitions festival, held in the Coronation Hall, Mosgiol, last night. The programme consisted chiefly of national and fancy dancing and pianoforte and vocal items. The following results were announced: — ’ Highland Fling, under 10.—Miss Noeline Thompson 1, Miss .Winme Little 2, Miss Neletta R. Tobin 3. Also iompeted: Misses Eva M. Buruard, Valerio Brown, Margaret Didham. Sword Dance, under 15.—Master Trevor Tregilgus 1, Miss Iris Dysart 2, Miss Shirley Joyce 3. Highly ■ commended: Miss Doreen Read. Also competed: Misses Mavis Paterson, Dorothy Joyce, Juno Tregilgus, Eva Mary Burnard, Ann Smith, Neletta Ethel R. Tobin, Beverley Wix, and June Tomlinson. Playette, six players.—Miss E. Lobb’s pupils (‘ Father Christmas Comes to Supper’) 1. The only entry. The judge said this was a charming performance. Seanu Triubhais, under 12.—Miss Doreen Read 1, Miss June Gutsoll 2, Miss -Shirley Joyce 3. Also competed: Misses Mavis Paterson, Dorothy Joyce, June Tregilgus, Juno Tomlinson, Iris Dysart, Anne Smith, Noeline Bush, Joy Callaghan, and Winnie Little. Action Song, under 12, recalls from previous evening.—Miss June Tregilgus 1, Misses Hilary Mason and Pat Golden (equal) 2. •Sailor’s Hornpipe, under IS. —Master Trevor Tregilgus 1, Miss Pat Reid 2, Miss Doreen Read 3. Also competed: Misses Juno Tregilgus and Beverley Wix. Piano Solo, 18 and over,—Miss Grace Norris 1, Miss Dorothy Rowe 2, Miss Hilda White 3. Irish Jig. under 15. —Master Trevor Tregilgus 1, Miss Beverley Wix 2, Miss June Tregilgus 3. Also competed: Misses Dorothy Joyce. Shirley Joyce, June Outsell, Anne Smith, Gwen. Bush, Patricia Helen Tobin, Noeline Bush, Pat Reid, Doreen Read, and Mavis Paterson. Vocal Duet, any voices. 15 and under 18. —Miss Margaret Stewart- and Miss Marie Hall 1. The only competitors. Vocal Solo. Ladies. —Mrs E. J. Colquhoun and Hiss Doreen M. Scott (equal) 1, Miss J. Thomson 3. Action Song, 12 to 15, recalls from previous evening.—Misses Beverley Wix and Noeline Campbell (equal) 1, Miss Audrey Edmond and Master Murray Edmond (equal) 2. Recitation, Shakespearean, 14 and over, not in costume, ‘ Taming of the Shrew,’ act 4, scene 3.—Mrs D. Wornall-S'mith and Miss E. J. Frew (equal) 1. The only competitors. Vocal Duct, any voices.—Miss J. Thomson and Mr R. Thomson 1. The only competitors. Recitation, Humorous, 16,and over. Two entries.—Mrs D. Wornal-Smith (‘ The Pudding ’) 1, Miss E. J. Frew (‘ Knitting ’) 2. Vocal Solos, Gentlemen. Two competitors. —Mr B. A. Wood 1, Mr R. Thomson 2. The programme for this evening .will consist of tap, operatic, and character dancing, junior songs, piano recalls, _ adult sacred solos, and an acrobatic exhibition dance.
Stockings are to he made from seaweed. Mermaids" will regret more than ever that they have no legs.
