RED CROSS AND ST. JOHN
JOINT COMMITTEE MEETING A meeting of the Joint Committee, Red Cross and tit. John, was attended by Mr J. W. Smeaton (in the chair), Miss Rattray, Mrs G. R. Ritchie, Mrs Stanley Batchelor, Miss M’Lean, ’Miss Farquhar. Messrs Charles V. Smith, O. It. Ferens. aud A. N. Haggitt. ' , A letter was received from a former- inmate of Montecillo Home thanking "the committee for its kindness and interest and for what tho doctor, matron, and staff had. done for him. Members were pleased to receive this expres&iou- of appreciation. Mesdames . Batchelor, Ritchie, and Neill reported for the hospital visitors. The soldier patients were in good spirits, it was stated, and were very grateful for the attention given to them. _ There were men at the Dunedin Hospital, five at Wakari, and six at Talboys. MONTECILLO HOME. Matron Douglass, submitted a satisfactory report regarding the Moqtecillo Home. Tho staff and patieuts were doing excellent work in the home and garden, and appreciated the willing - assistance given by members of the V.A.D during this busy period. Seven patients had been discharged and 17 admitted. Twenty-eight men are now receiving rest and treatment. Thanks' were expressed to friends for gifts sent up and for the kindly interest taken by them in the home and the men. The death of Miss Nicolson, late secretary of’ the Otago Women’s Club, was greatly regretted: By her kindly understanding, thoughtfulness, and tact she had endeared herself to one and all, and would be much missed.—lt was resolved to write to the Otago Women’s Club conveying a message of sym. Pa Uils M’Lean reported that Miss Skinner, who has been assisting in V.A.D. work at the home, would have to resign in a week or two owing to taking up a course of study. Members expressed appreciation, of Miss Skinner’s services, and it was reported that Miss Wilkin would try’ to get two V.A.s to go up to the home for part question of some assistance for an Imperial ex-soldier was left in the hands of Miss Farquhar and Mr Ferens. LEAVE FOR MATRON. The Home Committee reported that the matron would be benefited by a period off duty. The matter was left with the Home, Committee, 1 in consultation with the acting matron (Mrs Wright), to make jiecessary arrangements. Miss M’Lean referred to the annual garden fete, and the suggested day, Saturday, November 22. was approved.
