TRAMWAY SERVICE.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —It is most noticeable how, along with the constant advocacy of buses, our trams have been allowed to run into such a disreputable condition as to be a disgrace to any city. One lias only to look at the tvpe of ears known as Takapnna. These cars were new only a few years ago, but now look as if they had been running since the early settlers arrived here. They are dirty inside, and outside certainly look as if all the painters in the department had gone on active service. One wonders if our councillors have any civic prido to allow
the department's equipment to get into suck a state. If it is done for the purpose of saving money and showing a bettor balance sheet every year, it is certainly a very expensive policy. Some; years ago the Citizens’ Association’s cry previous to municipal elections was
" vote for business ability,” and now that the Labour vote has been considerably reduced we are looking for some of that business ability taking shape. The tramway depot seems to have had a much-needed spring clean outside, and I do think it is time the councillors saw to it that the trams wore given some attention.—l am, etc.. Ratepayer. July 26,
