ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS

STOCK BUYER KILLED. A well-known stock buyer of Waverley, Henry Barker English, employed by Messrs Thomas Borthwick and Sons, was killed early last evening when a car he was driving failed to negotiate a bend in the main road near Kai Iwi, 10 miles north of Wanganui. English had been attending a stock sale in Wanganui and was returning to Waverley in a three-seater car, accompanied by two passengers. Just north of the Kai Iwi bridge the car failed to take a corner, mounted a bank on the lefthand side of the road, and overturned. English was thrown through .a side window and pinned between the car and the bitumen. The car was lifted by jacks, but English died after being placed in an ambulance. The ' passengers in the car were not injured. English was married. FALL FROM LADDER. Dennis Quinn, an elderly man, residing at 12 Durham street, Dunedin, was admitted to hospital at 9.20 a.m., suffering from head injuries which he sustained when he fell from a ladder while working at London' street. STUDENT INJURED. Thomas Lindsay Gray, a student of Knox College, was" admitted to hospital at 6.45 p.m. yesterday. The injured man was suffering from concussion, which he received when he fell from his bicycle while swerving to avoid a ear.
