SURPRISE FOR PARENTS
DRAMA ON THE AIR (London Correspondent.) Even hard-boiled cynics were slightly moved by tho “ atmosphere ” at the 8.8. C. studio when, on a recent occasion, parents in this country spoke to their children on the other side of the Atlantic. The occasion was unique, and drama was very literally on tho air. The parents obviously experienced mixed sensations. They were thrilled to be in actual conversational contact with their youngsters, and .overjoyed to find them so cheerful and happy, but yet just a little peeved perhaps that the children were so cheerful. This was especially the case where maternal reactions were concerned. Tho psychological moral seems to bo that even parents are not indispensable to young children not old enough to have deeply-rooted domestic attachments. What startled some of the parents, moreover, was tho amazing manner in which, as was soon evident on tho wireless, most of the children have already acquired the transatlantic accent. When this fact was commented upon the kiddies were not disconcerted, but delighted.
