According to advice received by his mother. Sergeant IT. J. Bourkc, of Dunedin, who is serving with the forces in tho Middle East, has been promoted to the rank of second-lieutenant. A.B. AV. A. Dennison ami A.B. G. Dennison, who are serving in tbe Navy, and their brother. Private R. Dennison, who is serving with the N.Z.E.F. in the Middle East, have advised their parents that they arc safe and well. Similar advice has been received in respect to Sergeant-G. Stirling. Advice has bee” received in Dunedin of the death of Brigadier Basil .John Andrew, of the Australian _ Imperial Forces, from wounds received in Greece. He was a nephew- of Airs Cecd Oaten, of Richardson street. St. Hilda. Brigadier Andrew w-a« aide-de-camp to the Governor of South Australia, and in 1933 was ennointed to Army Headouarters in Melbourne, remaining there until he was seconded to the A.I.F, just over a year ago. Constable James Henry Brooks, who has been stationed at Anderson's Bay since coming to Dunedin in 1931, collapsed and died from heart failure at 5 this morning. A very popular officer, both with the public and’in the force, the late Constable Brooks, who was 60 years of ago, joined the service in Wellington in 1909, being stationed at Christchurch, Akaroa (where he was in charge), and at Wanaka, before coming to Dunedin.
