Govan’s share in Doubleack (says the ‘Southland Times'). They formerly raced the horse in partnership. Doubleack, a live-year-gelding by Balboa from Morse Signal, has shown good form this season. Among his successes were the Dunedin and Wyndham Cups. Curie Destroyed. The destruction of Curie, broke a fetlock while galloping on the track at Napier Park, has lost to the turf a popular figure of a few years ago, for be claimed a splendid flat record prior to being put to hurdling. Back in 1934 he won the York Handicap at the Auckland June meeting, and two years ago ho scored over the battens in the Winter Hurdles at Trentham. Although 12 years of age, he was well preserved. Trotting Conference. The annual. meeting of delegates to the New Zealand Trotting Conference will be held at Wellington in July, and among the remits to be presented is one from the Canterbury Park Trotting Club which advocates the inclusion in the programme of every metropolitan club of a race for ,C grade drivers. The remit has much to recommend it, for the ranks of A grade drivers are being reinforced all too slowly, and reinstnen well past their best days still drive regularly (says the Christchurch ‘Press’). This remit appeared on the order paper at conference last year, but it was withdrawn because of the war conditions existing. The Carbine Breed. An indication that Carbine blood is in the ascendancy in Australia is given by the fact that the two leading juveniles, the colt Yatalla (by The Buzzard) and the, filly All Love (by Double Remove), both belong to the family. Further three stallions who topped the averages at the Sydney Easter sales are all descendants of “ Old Jack," as he was affectionately called. Carbine died at the ago of 27 years at Welbeck Stud from a broken blood vessel in his brain. His owner, the Duke of Portland, sent his skin to Auckland,' his skeleton to the Melbourne Museum, and three of his feet, mounted as an inkstand, were given to tho late Governor-General. Lord Galway, a great friend and neighbour of the Duke. On his departing for England Lord Galway arranged for the inkstand to remain as a permanency at Government House in New Zealand.
