OTAGO MOTORISTS

MEETING OF ASSOCIATION Mr P. W. Breen presided over last night ! s meeting of the Automobile Association (Otago). LIGHTING RESTRICTIONS. A letter from the Dunedin City Council agreeing to the holding of a conference with the association when the car lighting, restrictions were in force, gave rise to a discussion on the matter of marking the kerbstones at street corners. The Chairman remarked that the lighting restrictions were far more severe in Dunedin than in the northern centres,' and he expressed the opinion that the City Council might well have taken the precaution of having the kerbs minted white before the restrictions had come into force. Members supported this view, and it was decided to write the City Council requesting. that the work of painting the kerbs at the intersections be undertaken immediately. TROOPS ON ROADWAY, Correspondence on the subject of visibility of troops moving on the roads at night was read, and the President reported that he had instructed the secretary to reply to a letter from the South Island Motor Union agreeing to a suggestion by the Commissioner of Transport that troops should carry a light at the front and at the rear of the column, the former a white light and tho latter a red light.—The president’s action was confirmed. MEMBERSHIP. It was reported that 63 new members had been enrolled and 48 removed from the 1 roll for various reasons. The total membership was now 6,163, which, the Chairman remarked, was highly satisfactory.
