THREATS BY COMMUNISTS
UNIONIST COMPLAINS SEQUEL TO RESCISSION OF ANTI-WAR RESOLUTION ("Per United Press Association.] i WELLINGTON, May 22. An allegation by a union member that he and other members of the union had been threatened by Communists has been reported to the police, who are investigating the matter. Confirming this, the Commissioner of Police (Mr D. J. Cummings) said to-day: “If there is evidence to support the complaint made, the police will have no hesitation in prosecuting those responsible for the threats.” Mr Cummings was shown a statement made to a reporter by a member of the Carpenters’ Union, who took a prominent part in securing the rescinding of the anti-war motion proposed by representatives of the Federation of Labour. He alleged that Communist members of the union had issued threats against him and other anti-Communist members of the uniom Some of them had been told that they would be hounded out of their jobs if they did not “ behave themselves.” his statement alleged.
