BLOOD TRANSFUSION

DUNEDIN SOCIETY MEETS There was a good attendance last night at the annual meeting of the Dunedin Voluntary Blood Transfusion Society. .Mr J. V. Dore was in the chair in the unavoidable absence of the chairman, Dr R. A. H. Fulton, ‘ Blood Transfusion in Wartime ' was the subject of an interesting address given by Dr V. E. Cable, who outlined recent developments, particularly the emergency methods used in England. Before the war an appeal had been made for blood donors, Dr Cable said, and it had met with a magnificent response. He added that the majority of the volunteers wore women, who were willing to come to the hospitals after working from early in the morning till late at night. Dr .M. Now Zealand Blood Transfusion Council, provided that no financial obligation was undertaken. The motion was carried. Dr M'George then spoke on the appeal which is being made for routine blood donors and for volunteers in the event of a national emergency. The following officers were elected:— Chairman, Dr It. A. H. Ridley; auditor, Mr A. M'Hutchon. Medals and bars gained in 1940 were awarded to the following;—Third bar (20 transfusions), Mrs C. N. Lamb; second bar (15 transfusions) —Messrs .1. J. A. Donaldson, S. G. Griffith, G L. Morrison, D. S. Maclean, J- H. Guthrie; first bar (10 transfusions) G. A. Bcrtenshaw, A. Murie, W. J. Overton, J. Benson, R. P. Williams, Mrs A. E. Thompson; medals■ (five transfusions) —Messrs C. J. H. Blackie, R. V. Frew, S. H. Hastie, H. Montgomery, D. R. M'lntosh, C. Pritchett, H. Pearce, A. A. Storry, W. J. K. Stuart, J. L. Cagney, Mcsdames E. A. Bartlett and M. B. Rees. A number of certificates of appreciation were also awarded.
