WHEN VOTING TO-MORROW THIS IN PARTICULAR At a public meeting held in the King’s Theatre on August 8, 1922, Mr Mark Silverstone was reported as saying : “ During the past war the women had been more jingoistic and more bloodthirsty than the men. A woman who was prepared to sacrifice her sons was lower than the animals of the lower world.” The report in the ‘ Evening Star ’ of next day continues : “ Mrs Leech rose from her chair on the platform, and, stamping her foot in her indignation, cried : I No ! Mr Silverstone. No ! No ! ’ Mr Silverstone, continuing amidst a little heckling, said Mrs Leech and he would not quarrel about the matter. It was his opinion.” Inserted by one individual reader of the * Star,’ who believes that the above extract from a letter to the editor in last night’s issue needs greater publicity at a time when promises of lower rates and concessions, made by cauciiscontrolled candidates, are being used in an endeavour to obtain control of our Council —and with It our local efforts to help the boys.
