Mr Charles Todd, of Wellington, whoi has been indisposed for the past week or two, is now reported to be progressing well. Dr W. Gilmore, pathologist at the Auckland Hospital, north by air on Saturday after conducting examinations at the Otago Medical School. Sir Evelyn Wrench, founder of the English-speaking Union in England and chairman of the Central Executive iu London, will visit New Zealand early in June. He will be accompanied by Lady Wrench. Tributes to Mr W. R. M’Kean, who ' has retired from the position of senior stipendiary magistrate in. Auckland, were paid at a farewell gathering of members of the Auckland Magistrate’s Court staff last week. Mr M’Kean has had 21 years’ service on the bench in. Auckland. Mr F. H. Levien, who is acting as senior magistrate, said Mr M’Kean had_ fulfilled the oath to administer justice without fear or favour, Mr J. Molding, S.M., referred to the courtesy and kindness with which Mr M’Kean had treated the staff. Mr M’Kean, who received from his fellowmagistrates and the staff a standard lamp, said he did not recall an occasion, in all his years of service on which a trust in his staff had been misplaced.
