PRESS GABLE MESSAGES
. CENSORSHIP REGULATIONS RELAXED J DELAY TO BE REDUCED TO MINIMUM , CANBERRA, May 8. (Received May 9, at 8 a.m.) The announcement was made by the Minister of Information (Senator Roll) to-night that Press cable messages from and to Australian, newspapers will no longer be subjected to censorship m Australia provided they ■ have been censored by a United Kingdoux despatch station. Senator Foil pointed out that Mr Meuzies had arranged for this depart* ure, which would be appreciated by newspaper staffs, who would be given the same power of voluntary censorship as was being exercised over Australian news. It was an extension of the “honour” system, which would ba applied to all incoming messages uy both cable and wireless. Senator Foil emphasised that cable delays would thus be reduced to a minimum, but special articles from oversea correspondents would require to be carefully watched. It might be necessary to seek the advice of local censors, the responsibility for which would rest upon editorial stall's.
