‘PRIDE AND PREJUDICE'

JANE AUSTEN CLASSIC The Dunedin Repertory Society is to be congratulated upon its successful presentation of Jane Austen’s ‘ Pride and Prejudice,’ which was again played to a full house at His Majesty’s on Thursday night. When Miss Helen Jerome dramatised tho famous, story of the typical Regency family she naturally found it impossible to capture completely the spirit of the realistic pictures given by Miss Austen, but the Dunedin Repertory Society, with a cast of 18 players, has given a presentation which has both surprised and delighted audiences. The soiSety has been very much more successful in the staging, and the costumes are outstanding. Against such a background there is the fascinating story of the book, with the scheming Mrs Bennet, her three marriageable daughters, and their suitors, as well as the other engaging personalities of the production. Mrs Jane Griffiths gives a finished performance as Mrs Bennet, whose scheming gives rise to much comedy, and (he roles of her daughters are admirably filled by Mrs Boa Johnson, MBs Kathleen Nccs, and Miss Betty Rhodes. Notable performances are given by Mr Bernard Sullivan and Mr Roland Watson, and others prominent in the large cast are Air Leslie Jack, Airs Wakefield Holmes, Miss Betty M'Phail, Miss Alargaret APLay, and Air T. A. Tarrant. ‘ Pride and Prejudice ’ is being produced by AUss Bessie Thomson, and will be presented again this evening.
