CRIME OF ARSON

PRISONER SENTENCED In the Supreme Court this morning Charles Robert Sims, aged 59, a builder, appeared for sentence before Mr Justice Kennedy on a charge of arson. The charge arose out of an incident at 127 St. Andrew street on the evening of January 1 last, when prisoner set fire to some curtains in the house , Tho nature of the accused s actions strongly suggests that ho was under the influence ut liquor at the time he committed tho offence, said his counsel, Mr O G. Stevens. Had it not been so Sims would not have set fire to the curtains Ho had been in gaol since the beginning of the year, apart from a period of two months in a mental institution. “ Tho consequences of your actions might have been much more serious than they turned out to be,” His Honour said to prisoner. In some degree they had been vindictive. Taking mto consideration the fact that Sims had been under restraint of some sort since January 1, His Honour imposed a term of one year’s reformative detention.
