JAPAN'S NEW TRUMP CARD REHEWED VIGOUR IH SOUTHWARD POLICY TOKIO, April 17. The ‘ Nichi Xichi Shimbun ’ asserted that the Japanese Government was ready to dispose of pending diplomatic issues one by one with the new_ Soviet pact as the trump card. It said that Prince Konoye was planning to reexamine all foreign policies after Mr Matsuoka’s return. “ In keeping with the German advance in the Balkans and the bottling up of the British fleet in the Mediterranean by a blockade of the Suez Canal and the British Isles.” said the paper. “ Japan’s Greater East Asia policy will be pushed with renewed vigour.]’ The Government, however, will continue to push negotiations with Washington, making an effort “ until the last pnoroent ” to avert further aggravation.
