THE FLAG COMPETITION 100 PER GENT. CONTRIBUTION BY THREE TOWNSHIPS [Special to tub ‘ Star.’] WELLINGTON, March 27. The National Savings Campaign flag competition is receiving u magnificent response. The distinction achieved by Weber, in the Palmerston North district, of recording 100 per cent, success in the -national savings “ ting ” competition (the nmmbcr of national savings depositors equalling the total population of the settlement) is now shared by To Anga, in the Hamilton postal district, ami Alfrcdton, in the Wellington postal district, each of which has opened national savings accounts equalling in number the population of the township. Such a magnificent response shows that_ the national savings movement and its implications in the winning of the war has the full support and interest of the public, a.nd exemplifies the willingness of the settlers in the towns which are leading in the competition to assist to the utmost of their ability in the financing of the national war effort. Tn the Blenheim district, Ward now takes the lead from Havelock, and in the Wanganui district Waitotara replaces Patea. In the remaining districts no alterations in the placmgs of the’towns has occurred, although all the offices report increased percentages in the 18 postal districts in the Dominion. . , The honour of flying a national savings flag for the next fortnight goes to the following “ leading towns ; Auckland district, Whitford; Blenheim district, Ward; Christchurch. Waiau: Dunedin district, Chvaka; Gisborne district To Araroa; Greymoutb district, Ross'; Hamilton district, Tc Anga; Invercargill district, Waikaka; Napier district, Porangakan; Nelson district, Murchison; New Plymouth district, Awakino ; Oamaru district, Kurow ; 1 almerston district, Weber; Thames district; Whakatane; Timaru district, Geraldine; Wanganui district. VUitotara; Wellington district, Alfredton; Westport district, Westport.
