The Hon. Dr J. A. Hanan, M.L.C., and Mrs Hanan, returned by the express yesterday afternoon from Wellington. Mr 6. W. Thomson, of the staff of the Bank of New Zealand at Palmerston. has been appointed accountant at the Greymouth branch, and will fake up his duties at the beginning of next month. Mr Thomson’s successor is Mr J. S. Ferguson, of the Dunedin branch. Mr H. Mandeno returned to Dunedin by yesterday’s express after a 1 visit to Auckland.

Mr Frank Tait, managing director of Messrs J. C. Williamson Ltd., arrived in Dunedin yesterday afternoon, and is staying at the City Hotel. Mr D. F. Hobbs, fresh-water fisheries biologist, of the Marine Department, Wellington, is on a visit to Dunedin. At the request of the Otago Acclimatisation Society he will investigate the fishing streams in this district. He expects to be in Otago for about 10 days. Tribute to the service given by the retiring president (Mr D. C. Jolly) was paid at the annual meeting of the Otago Rugby Football Union last night. Mr R. W. S. Sotting, who moved a vote of appreciation, stating that Mr Jolly had conducted the affairs of the union with considerable energy and marked ability. The motion was carried by acclamation. The president (Mr D. C. Jolly) referred with regret at the annual meeting of tlie Otago Rugby Football Union last night to the deaths during the year of Mr J. Barron from injuries received on the football field; Pilot-officer Ray Kean, who was killed on active service and who prior to his death was decorated for gallantry; Mr P. Keogh, an ex-representative and member of the 1888 New Zealand Native team; Messrs W. Lang, A. Esquilant, aud J. Spiers, ex-Otago representative players; Mr G. H. Dixon, a prominent New Zealand administrator aud manager of the 1905 All Black team; Mr F. M'Knight, an ox-Maniototo representative and administrator ; and Mr G. W. Slade, an exchairmau of the New Zealand Rugby Union. A motion of sympathy with the relatives of the deceased was carried in the .customary manner. Mr James Begg left for Wellington by to-day’s express to attend a meeting of the Meat Board. Mr G. T. Mason and Mr H. S. Pearce (Wellington) and Mr George A'rlin (Auckland), directors of the New Zealand Wax Vesta Company, returned north by the express this moruing.
