yfguslav discontent. LONDON. Mat-ell 26.—Reports leaking out through the censorship inilieatc that " dangerous discontent Is growing throughout Jugoslavia. The Government is itlready putting into operation its pledge to cnrh ant.i-Axis opinion and is seeking to stamp out the disorders. It is reported that the homes of the opposition leaders who resigned from the Government were searched and several arrests made. (ierman sympathisers and Yugoslav patriot students clashed in Belgrade, and police and soldiers used truncheons to quell the rioters. A secret Yugoslav radio station gave broadcasts beginning with the singing of patriotic songs, followed by violent attacks against Germany and the Government's foreign policy. The radio caused heightening tempers when it declared that German troops would enter to ” protect A ngoslavia under the Vienna pledge if the demonstrations continued. Thousands of peasants are gathering round the leaders in the .Serbian districts, chiefly in Bosnia. Montenegro, and Central Serbia. Sharp street fighting broke out in Belgrade to-night in at least eight places between police anil soldiers. Biot cars sped through the city in an attempt to quell the disturbances. Fourteen people were killed and many injured in a demonstration at Bonjaluka. One thousand demonstrators clashed with the police in Sarajevo. British correspondents in Belgrade have' bceii warned of immediate expulsion if they continue to write about the disorders. Their lines were cub when they attempted to telephone abroad. rcsnmably reflecting the Government’s view, the Belgrade radio to-night represented reaction to tlie Axis Fact as favourable throughout the country.
