NEW HIGH EXPLOSIVE

MORE POWERFUL THAN T.N.T. TESTS OF AMERICAN INVENTION WASHINGTON, March 26. (Received March 27, at 9.10 a.m.) Congressional sources disclosed today that the army is testing a new high explosive which is described by the inventors as 60 per cent, more powerful than T.N.T. Members of the House Military Committee said if the explosive proved satisfactory it would be particularly valuable for anti-submarine depth bombs. “ The British could use a lot of it right now if it is as good as we are told,” one legislator said. Committeemen said some of the nation’s leading scientists were responsible for the development of the explosive, and said it would cost only about one-third as much as T.N-T. to produce. Existing plants could be used for its manufacture with very little change.
