LABOUR DISPUTES
EFFECT OK U.S. DEFENCE INDUSTRY TASK FOR MEDIATION BOARD WASHINGTON, March 25, Mr Dykstra, chairman of the Defence Mediation Board, assembled members of the group to work out their powers and duties with defence and labour officials. Mr Dykstra said the board had an open mind on all current labour controversies, and was determined to begin its work without it was the first meeting of the Mediation Board, which President Roosevelt set up last week to ensure against, stoppages of work in the vital defence industry, and it coincided with potentially the-most serious strike yet to occur in the defence industry in the Steel Corporation plant at Bethlehem. A message from Chicago states that a spokesman of the C. 1.0. Farm Equipment Workers’ Organising Committea announced that strikes would be called in all of the 16 plants of the International Harvester Company in retaliation for the reopening of the M'Cormick works.
