DAWK RAIDERS

ENEMY FIGHTERS OVER ENGLISH COAST TWO SHOT DOWN BY B.A.F. LITTLE ACTIVITY UP TILL NOON (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, March 13. (Received March 14, at noon.) An official communique states: At about dawn this morning a small number of enemy fighters and fighterbotnbers crossed the south-east coast, but did not come far inland. Fighters intercepted and shot down two enemy aircraft without loss to themselves. A few bombs were dropped, but there were no casualties, and little damage was done. Otherwise there was little enemy activity up to noon to-day. Of the nine enemy bombers destroyed in last night’s enemy attacks on this country it is known that five were shot down by night patrols and three by A.A. gunfire. A number of other enemy bombers are known to have been damaged by various means, and it is probable that several of these failed to reach their base. Later yesterday afternoon there were brief encounters over the Straits of Dover between our fighter patrols and enemy fighters. One enemy aircraft was destroyed and one of our fighters was lost. DOWN OVER THE MERSEYSIDE (By Radio.) LONDON, March 13. Of the nine German bombers brought down over England last night seven were shot down over Merseyside, where the casualties were not heavy in view of the scale of the raid. Five of the raiders were shot down by night fighters, including two of a new type just recently put into commission. GIBRALTAR BOMBED SECOND TIME IN TWO DAYS LONDON, March 12. It is reported from La Linia that for the second time in two days a single plane to-day bombed Gibraltar and machine-gunned anti-aircraft defences. GROSS EXAGGERATION NUMBER OF GERMANS IN LIBYA “ WAR OF NERVES " CONTINUED LONDON, March 13. In continuation of her “war of nerves,” Germany has given out that she already has three divisions of troops in Libya. This figure is believed to be a gross exaggeration.
