EMERGENCY PRECAUTIONS

SCHEME HEARING FINALITY BOOKLET TO BE ISSUED Many people wonder why no information is released to the public regarding the work of the Emergency Precautions Organisation,” said the mayor (Mr A. H. Allen), addressing the annual meeting of the St. John Ambulance Association last night “ Three years ago a very complete scheme was prepared, to deal with any national disaster, such as earthquake, fire, or epidemic. Actually this was the first scheme prepared in the Dominion, and it was copied in northern centres. It did not, however, cover tho contingency of war.” Later, lie continued, in the light of the possibility of an emergency due to enemy attack arising, it became necessary to revise the scheme which was being drawn up for war purposes alone. It was no light task. There were 14 sections in the scheme, including the one added recently—the reduced lighting section. All these wore intricate and elaborate.

That new scheme had just about reached finality. When that happened the information would be given to the public. In particular, a booklet would be issued giving instructions on all matters connected with the scheme. He thanked tho society for its valuable contribution to the medical section. The scheme could not have been made operative without the co-opera-tion of St. John and the Red Cross.
