BALLOTED MEN

CONSCIENTIOUS OBJECTORS EXEMPT FROM MEDICAL EXAMINATIOH Some confusion appears to exist locally regarding the position of conscientious objectors to active service who are called in the ballots and their medical examination. 1 All conscientious objectors are exempt from medical examination before the hearing of their appeal, providing the intimation that an appeal is to be made is lodged as soon as possible after the receipt of notice that the person concerned has been called up. Every balloted man receives a form which enables him to apply for service in the Air Force or for exemption from service. Application for Air Force service or for exemption on conscientious grounds only do away with the necessity for attending a medical board providing the form is filled in and despatched at once. Appeals against service on grounds other than conscientious objection do not nullify tho medical examination.

Men who have forwarded to the registration office forms stating they intend applying for service with tho Air Force or intend objecting on conscientious grounds and who subsequently receive a notice to attend a medical board should telephone the office setting out their position. Jt is imperative that the registration office be communicated with should a notice to attend a medical board bo received under these circumstances. So far as possible, however, every care is taken to see that no notice is sent, but in the rush of work it sometimes does happen that a notice goes out in error. MEN ALREADY EXAMINED.

The Army authorities also advise that men who have already been examined and who receive a notice to attend the medical board should communicate with tho registration office and state the particulars of their previous examination.
